Energy Students Test Solar Panels
Beautiful weather at the weekend increased the enthusiasm of Banff and Buchan College Energy students when they met at Huntly Learning Centre on Saturday 28th April to test their solar collector designs. The main function of the test was to determine the rise in water temperature that could be gained, in a measured reservoir, by using their solar collectors. Each student conducted experiments into the materials they would use for their collectors, which involved placing various materials into sunlight and measuring the temperature gain. Banff and Buchan College Mechanical Engineering Level 2 students raised £268 for Friends of ANCHOR charity as part of their Working With Others core skill. Students studying Access to Social Sciences at Banff and Buchan College raised £680 cash in a collection for the Stella’s House charity in Moldova and its parent charity The New Hope Trust in Peterhead. The charity initiative across the College included a car wash and one student dyed his hair pink and raised £180 of sponsorship. The Access to Social Sciences group also held a Christmas shoeboxes collection, collecting health care items, clothing and food for the orphanages in Moldova.
