Further Education Funding

A Further Education Bursary Award is a form of student support available to students having reached the statutory school leaving date who wish to study a full-time non-advanced level course.

The award is means-tested on the parent/guardian/spouse/partner’s income.

The award has three elements:

  • Maintenance – this can be up to £86.81 per week.
  • Travel – if the student qualifies for the travel element, the college will provide transport or the equivalent bus fares to and from the college. Students under the age of 18 at the start of their course will be eligible for the full travel award regardless of the parental income.
  • Study – this allowance covers the cost of books, materials, equipment etc. a student requires to undertake their course as specified by the relevant department. Students under the age of 18 at the start of their course will be eligible for the full study award regardless of the parental income.

Student’s income from employment during the session is disregarded in the calculation of their award.

Students undertaking non advanced Part-time/Open learning studies and are under the age of eighteen or eligible for a fee waiver may be granted a travel and study bursary only.

Application forms are available from the Student Funding Section where the staff will help with any further queries you may have.
