Higher Education Funding
Students undertaking a full-time advanced level course, Higher National Certificate or above, must apply to S.A.A.S. the Students Awards Agency for Scotland for funding.
Students who are under the age of 55 years can apply for a Student Loan to help fund them through the time they are in Higher Education. You do not have to start repaying your loan until you have completed your studies and are earning over £15,000 a year. An example of the repayment of the loan is, if you earn £17,000 a year the Inland Revenue would deduct £15 per month from your salary.
Young Student Bursaries are available to students under 25 years.
If your family income is less than £18,820 a year you could qualify for £2,575 which you do not have to pay back. If the family income is over £33,300 you would not be eligible for this award.
S.A.A.S. can also help with your traveling expenses, the forms usually become available in December, but they do not pay the first £155.
There are also Supplementary Grants available depending on your circumstances. Single parents and students who have extra costs because of disabilities may apply.
For further information check the S.A.A.S. website or call the Student Funding Department here at the college.
