Banff and Buchan College and the University of Aberdeen are celebrating the launch of a new partnership, whereby the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University will provide a range of courses at the College’s Learning Centres in Ellon, Peterhead, Huntly, Macduff and at the main campus in Fraserburgh.

The first courses have just started running and it is anticipated that more will be added over the next few years. Courses will be delivered by different methods, including face-to-face tuition, video and audio-conferencing, at times to suit those with work and/or family commitments. There are no prior entry requirements for Access and Level 1 courses. All courses carry standard University credits and may be counted towards the award of certificates, diplomas and degrees by part-time and full-time study.

Courses currently on offer include Access to Degree Studies, Counselling Skills, History, Medical Humanities, Philosophy, Scottish Archaeology and Scottish Cultural Studies.

Tuition fees are set at affordable levels and financial help is available for those in receipt of benefits or on a low income. All courses are eligible for ILA funding.

The partnership agreement was formally signed by Professor Stephen Logan, Senior Vice-Principal of the University of Aberdeen and Robert Sinclair, Principal of Banff and Buchan College, at the College’s new Ellon Learning Centre on Friday.

Professor Stephen Logan said: “The University is delighted to be able to collaborate with Banff and Buchan College in this innovative new partnership. Jointly we shall be able to bring a range of credit-bearing courses to those who are unable to travel to Aberdeen. We look forward to increasing and developing this for the future.”

Speaking about the landmark agreement Robert Sinclair said: “I am delighted that the University has selected us to work in partnership with them. Offering these courses at our Learning Centres helps make achieving a University degree more accessible and broadens the range of learning opportunities for local communities. We look forward to having a productive and successful partnership with the University.”
