A group of 10 girls from Turriff Academy recently paid a visit to the global oil services company Schlumberger in Aberdeen as part of their Skills for Work Energy course.

The girls, all in S3, are studying the course over 2 years with the College. Schlumberger sponsor the course and invited the girls to tour their premises and find out more about the oil and gas industry. During the visit the girls toured the design and measurement and sub-seismic workshops and learnt about different types of rock formation and how it is measured using various tools.

After the tour the girls had lunch with two of their new mentors at Schlumberger, Sarita McVicar Wright, a Petrophysicist, and Claire Jones, a Geophysicist. Both mentors will provide support and advice to the girls throughout the course. The girls then took part in a fun quiz before returning to the school.
