The Banff and Buchan College Business team have recently participated in the first Scottish College pilot of BIIAB Level 1 Certificate in Alcohol Awareness at Turriff Academy with a group of thirteen 16-17 year olds.  The qualification has been developed in response to recent government initiatives to raise awareness of issues linked to alcohol and young people and is delivered by College lecturing staff.  The programme had been running on Wednesday afternoons at Turriff Academy from the beginning of April and finished on 7th May with the class sitting an external short test which was overseen by Alice Cardwell-Hodges, British Institute of Innkeeping Client Development Director,  who attended the examination to evaluate the course.

Claire Leslie, a pupil on the course, commented: “I really did enjoy the course and learned more about the effects of alcohol. The activities to go along with the course helped me understand the content better”, whilst Laura Lumsden added: “I found the course interesting as we learnt some things that we were not aware of , and now realise just how little alcohol it takes to put you over the limit.”
