School pupils who excelled at an Engineering Competition held by Banff and Buchan College and Schlumberger were rewarded for their success with a days training on the colleges fast rescue craft at Peterhead harbour today (Monday 19th July 2010). Students raise over £600 for ARCHIE Project

Banff and Buchan College students currently studying for their SVQ in Business and Administration at Peterhead Learning Centre, have raised over £600.00 for the ARCHIE project at Peterhead Community Hospital. The group raised the money through organising a sponsored walk starting from Peterhead Learning Centre to Boddam and return, in total a 7 mile round trip. They also sold quiz sheets to the local community. Two student’s from the NC Welding and Fabrication course at Banff and Buchan College have excelled in the regional heat of a prestigious welding competition and will now go on to the Scottish Finals in Cumbernauld. Yawl donation to benefit local young people

A replica Zulu sailing yawl which was built to benefit young people in the North East has been donated to Banff and Buchan College. The 18ft Yawl was built by local experts involved in the Banff and Macduff Youth Development Project in order to promote traditional skills of seamanship to youths in the area.  Unfortunately they no longer have the resources to support the project so they are hoping that by passing ownership to the College the Yawl can continue to benefit local young people. An enterprising student from Banff and Buchan College has triumphed at a prestigious offshore awards ceremony. Samantha Thomson, from Stuartfield, received the award at the Offshore Contractors’ Association (OCA) Dinner.  Samantha is currently working with Aker Solutions as a trainee piping designer and is studying for her HNC in Mechanical Engineering with Banff and Buchan College.  It was during her time at college that Samantha found a cheaper way to produce drawings, a method she then passed on to her colleagues and it was this solution that merited her award.

Three modern apprentices who are studying through Banff and Buchan College have swept the board in the National Craft Skills Competition, organised by Scottish Engineering. Pupils at Buckie High are set to gain an insight into a career in the nautical industry following a generous donation from Northern Oils.
