The 18ft Yawl was built by local experts involved in the Banff and Macduff Youth Development Project in order to promote traditional skills of seamanship to youths in the area. An enterprising student from Banff and Buchan College has triumphed at a prestigious offshore awards ceremony. Samantha Thomson, from Stuartfield, received the award at the Offshore Contractors’ Association (OCA) Dinner. Samantha is currently working with Aker Solutions as a trainee piping designer and is studying for her HNC in Mechanical Engineering with Banff and Buchan College. It was during her time at college that Samantha found a cheaper way to produce drawings, a method she then passed on to her colleagues and it was this solution that merited her award.
