College Charity Raises Money for Moldovan Orphanages
Posted on 09, Dec 2011
Students studying Access to Social Sciences at Banff and Buchan College raised £680 cash in a collection for the Stella’s House charity in Moldova and its parent charity The New Hope Trust in Peterhead.
The charity initiative across the College included a car wash and one student dyed his hair pink and raised £180 of sponsorship.
The Access to Social Sciences group also held a Christmas shoeboxes collection, collecting health care items, clothing and food for the orphanages in Moldova. This collection will be distributed to the residents of Stella’s House as a form of Christmas presents given in shoeboxes.
A number of activities have been planned for the year to raise money for The New Hope Trust and to increase awareness of the charity. The next fundraising event will take place at the Winter Festival in Banff and Buchan College on 20th December 2011.
Racquel Buchan, the student who proposed fundraising for The New Hope Trust, said “We are helping unfortunate young women to have a better quality of life.”
Rory Enright, the course tutor for Social Sciences, said: “For my part, it is very rewarding knowing that we can make a difference, especially at this time of year. Seeing the students develop their skills and make a difference to somebody else’s life is great.
“I would really like to thank everyone who contributed towards this meaningful charity. All the donations have recently been shipped to Moldova. Also, we would really appreciate any donations of Christmas food and drinks from anyone outside the College to use as raffle or competition prizes for our stalls at the Winter Festival. If anyone would like to make any donations, please email renright@banff-buchan.ac.uk.”

Well done, the winter festival was fun, including the Russian accordian playing and singing (Nadjeda) and the cakes I bought were delicious, I'm sure all your hard work paid off!
