Posted on 11, Nov 2011 College proud to work with IMechE to achieve accredited status

Students following Engineering programme’s at Banff and Buchan College will be elegible for EngTech status following approval of the College’s courses by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

This adds a professional qualification to the College’s academic and vocational portfolio. This will enhance the Modern Apprenticeship programme currently delivered by Banff & Buchan and the growing demand for HNC/D level courses.
David Cook, College Assistant Principal said “In the modern engineering world professional qualifications are truly global and will allow our students to move seamlessly to careers across the world. This qualification will support careers in current technologies and emergent technologies.”

Stephen Tetlow, CEO of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said: “The Institution is committed to raising the skills of young engineers and driving up workforce skills to world class levels. In challenging economic times, the Institution is committed to supporting students and apprentices, and working with colleges to ensure that they have the best possible start. Gaining Institution approved EngTech status will undoubtedly set these students apart, enabling them to gain a recognised professional qualification before they even start work, and I have no doubt Banff and Buchan College is one of the key leading colleges in the country."

The approval for Engtech status is to be back dated for three years meaning over 2300 previous students will be eligible to apply. In addition there are 500 students at the College this year who are on the path to achieving Engtech status.

Any student who has completed an engineering programme at the College since April 2008 and is interested in finding out more should contact Diane Duncan on 01346 586178 Or email dduncan@banff-buchan.ac.uk.
