Fraserburgh Academy Pupils Engineer Their Future
Posted on 28, Oct 2011
S2 pupils at Fraserburgh Academy competed in the local heat of the prestigious Schlumberger Schools Competition on Tuesday 25th October 2011.
The event was created 8 years ago to mark the exciting partnership between Banff and Buchan College and Schlumberger. Banff and Buchan College was selected as the first United Kingdom Further Education College to collaborate with Schlumberger to build closer links between students pursuing technical qualifications and Schlumberger as a potential employer.
The competition involved the students building a propeller racing car from a kit. The students were assessed on their ability to read and understand the instructions, follow the diagram and on their behaviour and team working ability on the day. At the end of the competition the students then raced their cars for fun.
The winning pupils were:
1st Boy Alexander Allen
1st Girl Teri May Cowie
2nd Boy Scott Brown
2nd Girl Maerin Milne
Alexander Allen and Teri May Cowie will now go forward to the grand final of the Schlumberger Schools Engineering competition which will take place at the college in May. There they will compete against the top students from 6 other local academies to be crowned the overall winners.
