A Banff and Buchan College student has excelled in a National welding competition.

Jonathon Daniel from Peterhead, who is employed by Dales Engineering, took first place in the regional BOC Welder Scotland Competition and then went on to take second place in the national compettion. He will now travel to The Welding Institute in Cambridge at the end of October to compete in the British Final.

Ronnie Cowie, Curriculum Head of Welding and Motor Vehicle at the College said “Everyone at Banff & Buchan College would like to congratulate Jonathon on his achievements and his commitment to improving his skills set. We’d also like to take the opportunity to wish him all the best for the forthcoming UK welding finals. I would like to thank all the welding tutors for their on-going dedication in nurturing, developing and pushing the boundaries of welding excellence. Finally, Jonathon’s employers, Dales Engineering Service must also be congratulated for the continued support they offer all their apprentices. “

Kevin Thomson, Operations Director at Dales Engineering Services Limited said “Jonathon competed in the same competition last year, and did really well to be highly placed in the Scottish finals in the first year of his apprenticeship. This year he has gone one better and has the opportunity to compete against the best the UK has to offer at the national finals. Jonathon undoubtedly has a natural talent for welding, and we are very proud of the fact that the Company Apprenticeship scheme and the excellent training provided by the College has helped nurture this talent to achieve a high level of success. Jonathon has set the bar for the up and coming apprentices to follow.”
