education maintenance allowance
The Education Maintenance Allowance is generally for students under 18 years of age at the start of their course. The award is based on the parental income.
For students who previously received an E.M.A, the bands in 2011/12 are as follows:
For new students, the bands are as follows:
<£20,351 = £30 per week
For families with more than one child in full time education, the bands are as follows:
<£22,403 = £30 per week
No payment is made during holiday periods.
The E.M.A is paid for 100% attendance.
However, students of this age qualify for the full payment of the Travel and Study element of their bursary award.
